Newborn babies are extremely fragile and need to be handled with a lot of care. You need to keep in mind that alongside taking care of the baby and pampering it, you also need to keep your stress under control. Here are a few tips to help you with your newborn baby.
1 – Take Care of Yourself
In order to take care of the newborn, you need to be healthy first. Eat a healthy diet, drink water regularly, exercise or walk in open air for a while. Avoid drinking a lot of caffeine and sleep on time. It is better to make a schedule with your partner that helps you both take care of the baby and sleep in turns.
2 – Manage your Activities
Even though your job might be important for you, take a break for a while to give the baby your undivided attention. Give time to nursing and crying session; and if you’re planning to head out with the baby, make sure you have diaper changing supplies handy.
3 –Be Emotional!
Feeling happy, anxious, grieved or strained all in a short time span is acceptable when you are a parent taking care of a new born. But make it a point to discuss everything that’s bothering you with your partner, so that you both can work out solutions together.
4 – Relax
Too tired? Leave those dust bunnies lying there and don’t wash clothes until you actually need them. Cook when you feel like and sleep when you’re exhausted, leaving someone else to take care of the baby.
5 – Go out
With or without the baby, go for a walk in the fresh air to calm yourself. If possible, leave the baby with a trusted relative for a while and get out of the house.
6 – Allow Others to Help
Don’t reject a helping hand. Sometimes all you need is someone to hold the baby while you hang the laundry or someone to hang the laundry while you hold the baby.
7 – Don’t End Your Social Life
Yes, your baby needs your attention, but a little time out with friends and family won’t hurt. Schedule time with your other kids if you have any, or your partner or close friends.
8 – Always Consult for Help
In case you’re having trouble adjusting with the newborn, immediately consult a doctor or a mental health expert for help and guidance.
Parenting is not an easy job and it takes a lot of dedication and hard work. Keep these tips in mind as you start your life with a new little member properly.
